Germany rejects US blockade against Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 4 (ACN) Christofer Burger, spokesman for the German foreign ministry, said Friday his country rejects the application of the economic, financial and commercial blockade that the United States keeps against Cuba.

The official assured that Angela Merkel's administration is opposed to the approval of such measures against any country, the Cuban ministry's website CubaMinrex pointed out in a statement issued Friday.
Burger gave his response against the blockade after being questioned about Berlin's position on Washington's actions against the Caribbean country.
This is not the first time the European country pronounces itself in favor of Cuba and against unilateral coercive measures, since in June this year German artists and academicians launched an initiative to demand the end of the US blockade.
Such initiative urges the German government to work towards a Community alliance that will demonstrate against this genocidal policy during its presidency of the Council of the European Union.
It has the support of more than 50,000 signatures of personalities from culture and science, former ministers, sociologists, businessmen, philanthropists, historians and professors of international law, among many other sectors.
The CubaMinrex statement stresses that, beyond demanding the end of the blockade, the initiative denounces the United States' attempts to subjugate Cuba and the pressure carried out by Donald Trump's administration on several countries to reject the help of the Caribbean nation's medical brigades.
