Sand color attracts interest during international forum in Varadero

VARADERO, Cuba, Dec 6 (ACN) The color of sand is a key element to consider in the restoration of tourist beaches, has an influence on the assessment of customers and biodiversity, the Italian Enzo Pranzini said today during the event VARAPLAYAS held in this resort.

A master lecture by the geologist and head of the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Florence, highlighted during the second day of the 6th Symposium on Integrated Management and Environmental Management of Beaches and Coastal Ecosystems.
The world-renowned doctor of science also emphasized the colors of Cuba's beaches and their scenic value, as a result of his study of a hundred of those ecosystems in the Caribbean island, including Sirena beach, whose sand he defined as the brightest in the world.
Cuba has the best but also diversity, apart from Varadero (second best beach in the world according to the TripAdvisor website), there are other beaches in areas where the development of rural tourism with a distributed and coordinated reception can boost sustainable economic growth, Pranzini asserted.
The Italian academic presented a system for analyzing the color of beach sand designed by his team, and warned about the need to take into account that aspect in the regeneration of these landscapes to maintain their original characteristics and not modify them drastically.
The presentation of conferences on other subjects such as the management of biological diversity, and numerical modeling applied to coastal ecosystems, as well as the awarding of a nature photography contest, were part of the agenda of the event that began on December 4 and will conclude tomorrow.
The Symposium is held at the Plaza America Convention Center, in this tourist center located about 120 kilometers east of Havana, and gathers around 180 participants from Italy, Colombia, Mexico, France, Spain and several Cuban provinces.
