Despite US blockade, Cuba progresses, Cuban minister says at UNESCOHAVANA, Nov. 15 (ACN) The economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States against Cuba cannot halt the social development of the Caribbean nation, Cuban Culture Minister Alpidio Alonso told at UNESCO.

Alonso told Prensa Latina that the boost in education, science and culture responds to the strong political will of the Cuban Revolution, which resists and defeats the genocidal blockade.
In the context of the 40th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), he said that there are many examples that demonstrate the progress and strength of his country, despite almost 60 years of the blockade imposed by the White House, tightened by the current administration.
He also recalled that not a single school was closed in Cuba, not even in the worst moments of the special period (a period of economic difficulties in the 1990s as a result of the end of the European socialist bloc), and the art education system continues developing, to which children and young people have free access.
The minister pointed out that even though the United States reinforces with genocidal measures its objective of choking the island and creating difficulties for its people to cause the collapse of the Revolution, social development continues.
Apart from denouncing the criminal blockade at this UNESCO General Conference, there is still much to be said about Cuba's social development, he added.
