Cuba and China expand ties in the tourist sector

HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 11 (ACN) Manuel Marrero, Cuban Minister of Tourism, who is on a working visit to the People's Republic of China, held several meetings with executives of the sector in that nation, aimed at fostering Cuba as a safe destination for those interested in this Asian country.

According to his official Twitter, Marrero met with the Board of Directors of the Kempinski Shanghai Hotel, "the only Cuban property outside the Caribbean nation, which, due to its high quality, has allowed high occupancy and excellent economic results. #CubaDestinationSafety #TourismWithQuality".
At the same time, the Cuban minister held talks with directors of CTrip, the leading online tour operator in Asia and the second in the world, "with whom we signed a MOU to foster Chinese tourism to our country.
Marrero also mentioned that the Havanatur group will open a representation in Shanghai, negotiations will be held on Wednesday with the firm Alipay to ease digital payments to Chinese citizens, and in 2020, its office will increase the budget to boost the promotion of Cuba throughout China.
Although the Chinese market is still not positioned as one of the main markets for Cuba, as of September this year more than 2.500 tourists from that country have visited the island, according to the National Statistics and Information Office (ONEI), numbers with trends to continue increasing in the current high season of tourism, which extends until the coming April.
