MATANZAS, Cuba, Jul 12 (ACN) Miguel Diaz-Canel, President of the Councils of State and Ministers, stressed the need to follow closely each case to prevent the exodus of teachers, during a meeting with directors of training centers at the University of Matanzas.
During a government visit to the province of Matanzas, the Cuban President learned about the coverage of teachers, constructive maintenance of schools, a program to assist educators, and the use of the land tax for social works in education and public health.
Raúl Hernández Galarraga, provincial director of education, pointed out that Cárdenas and Matanzas are the municipalities with the greatest difficulties in terms of teacher coverage, although out of 255 applications for dismissal, at the end of this academic year they managed to convince 88 of them not to leave the sector.
According to Education Minister Ena Elsa Velázquez, the program to assist teachers, the first of its kind in the country, includes medical care and recreation, among other benefits, and encourages them to stay in school.
During the visit to the academy, Díaz-Canel Bermúdez was interested in the enrollment to higher education, the continuity of studies in students who completed the ninth grade, the graduates of the health sector, and the different programs of the science and technology park, which is located in this university
