HOLGUIN, Cuba, Jun 11 (ACN) The Gibara International Film Festival to be held from July 1st to the 7th is ready for another edition that will award film, music, arts, dance and theater.
The President of the Festival Jorge Perugorria, told the press on Monday that this year's event will be held in July but for 2019, it go back to April as always.
This year's event will be dedicated to children and adolescents and will pay tribute to renowned filmmaker and creator of the festival, Humberto Solas through the showing of his films like the classics Memories of Underdevelopment and Lucia.
A short film and art exhibition will be inaugurated dedicated to his work, highlighting the affectionate link that united Solas with the town of Gibara, said Sergio Benvenuto, member of the organizing committee.
He pointed out that they will also include the insertion of spaces dedicated to culinary arts in cooperation with the La Cueva Restaurant and a workshop dedicated to children and adolescents.
During the event, an award called "Lucia de Honor" (Lucia of Honor) will be granted to three outstanding artists: filmmaker Enrique Pineda Banet, actress Mirtha Ibarra and actor Salvador Wood.
Among the luxury guests that will attend is actor and producer Benicio del Toro that will have a special presentation of the movie called "Miedo y Asco en las Vegas" (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas) by Terry Gilliam, classic film that will commemorate 20 years and whom he shared the screen with Johnny Depp.
According to the program, concerts will be held in the evenings performed by prestigious and popular artists like singer/songwriter Silvio Rodriguez who will open the festival while the closing will include Argentinean Fito Paez and Alain Perez.
