SANTIAGO DE CUBA, Cuba, Apr 25 (ACN) The 38th Edition of the Caribbean Festival to be held from July 3rd to the 9th in the Eastern city will have Puerto Rico as the Guest of honor. Over 600 people from 22 countries have already confirmed their participation.
The Sub Director of the Casa del Caribe, Daniela Anaya told the press on Wednesday that some 150 representatives from Puerto Rica is expected, among them intellectuals, groups and artists like renowned singer Andy Montanez.
In addition to Puerto Rico, the largest delegations so far will be from Argentina, Venezuela and the United States.
She said Cuba will include over 50 artists, many of them founders of the festival, with the most important popular and traditional culture in the Caribbean region.
Among the attractions of the Fiesta del Fuego (Fire Festival) will be a tribute to Eduardo Roca Salazar (Choco), 2007 National Visual Arts Award and who will be in his hometown of Santiago de Cuba to share his work, especially in the Nuevo Vista Alegre neighborhood where he lived, said Anaya.
She added that in the same neighborhood large format pieces of the painter will be exhibited.
About 30 sites in Santiago de Cuba will host the Caribbean Festival, encounter that gathers different cultural expressions, which will include 28 exhibitions of artists and a theater workshop, coordinated by 2017 National Art Award laureate, Fatima Patterson.
Inaugurated in April of 1981, thanks to the late writer and researcher Joel James Figarola and other intellectual figures of Santiago de Cuba, the Fiesta del Fuego also constitutes a space of anti-hegemonic reflection and resistance.
