Cuba and Syria will cooperate in higher educationHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 15 (acn) A collaboration agreement between Cuba and Syria in the academic and scientific field was signed today in Havana as part of the activities by the 11th International Congress of Higher Education Universidad 2018.

Jose Ramon Saborido, Cuba´s Minister of Higher Education, and his Syrian counterpart, Atef al Naddaf, ratified the agreement that provides the basis for cooperation between both countries.
As part of this, Syrian youngsters can study in Cuba degree courses related to health sector such as Medicine, Pharmacy, Biology and others associated to human well-being.
The agreement implies the exchange of students, experiences among university professors, and other events that bring both nations closer.
Similarly, about 10 scholarships are offered to Cuban university students to learn the Arabic language in their nation, Naddaf said.
The diplomat thanked the Cuban government for signing the agreement, and expressed the wish for the collaboration to remain.
Saborido explained that there is a history of academic relations between both nations since a large number of Syrian students have graduated from Cuba, and added that at times like those, alliances in university sector are vital.
It is an agreement that in some way covers all academic, scientific activity, but some degree of dissatisfaction persists, "because we are aware that we can do much more", hence the importance of taking the right steps to perfect the links, he stated.
