Tribute to Tamara Bunke on the 80th Anniversary of Her Birth

SANTA CLARA, Cuba, Nov 16 (acn) The Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) paid tribute to Tamara Bunke, "Tania La Guerrillera" (Tania the Guerrilla) on Thursday in the city of Santa Clara on the 80th anniversary of her birth.

Workshops with the youth on the life of Tamara Bunke at the Orientation of Women and Family Houses and discussions related to her work are some of the activities that began this week in the central city.

Member of the Provincial Secretariat of the FMC, Mayelin Diaz told ACN that outstanding women will carry out on Saturday what they call the morning in the replacement of flowers at the Ernesto Guevara Sculpture Complex where the remains of Tania, Che and other combatants of the guerrilla in Bolivia lays to rest.

A colloquium will be held on Friday, called Today we remember you Guerrilla with the participation of the outstanding women, students and founders of the FMC.

Diaz said that Sunday the 19th will be an important date for the women in Villa Clara because they will celebrate the 80th anniversary of Tania the Guerrilla and a commitment related with guarding the remains at the memorial.

Tamara Bunke Bider fell in combat on August 31st, 1967 in Vado del Yeso, Bolivia and her remains were placed in Santa Clara on December 30th 1998 after the Cuban people paid tribute to the guerrilla in the Caturla Hall of the Jose Marti Provincial Library.
