Colonial Art Museum: 50 Years in Defense of HeritageSANCTI SPIRITUS, Cuba, Oct 10 (acn) The Colonial Art Museum, first institution of its type created in the center of the island is celebrating half a century on Tuesday with a broad program of activities which includes an exchange of decorative arts among several provinces.

The program of activities has been intense focused in getting the younger generation to appreciate one of the most significant installations in the city due to the architectural values and rich collection treasured in the center.

In statements to ACN, Marta Cuellar, Director of the installation, which was constructed in the 18th century in the heart of the villa, said that one of the main activities of the birthday celebration is an exchange with specialists in other territories on the process of decorative arts.

According to Cuellar, this center had some challenges in its conservation that took place last May and was also directed in the specialization of those that will protect the precious pieces.

Gloria Santos, specialist of the Vice President of the Museums of the National Council of Cultural Heritage, said that the collections are complex because one must become an expert of the art work in order to understand them and place them in the right space.

She said that due to its value, many identify the decorative art with good taste, beauty, so the specialist must be prepared to take care of the pieces.

Santos Luna said that they have seen the organization and seriousness that has characterized the work of the museum in Sancti Spiritus but also other experiences underway in Villa Clara with a catalog of verses that can attract more people.

A presentation of artists, designers and artisans got together Tuesday night at the Serafin Sanchez Valdivia park to present some of the most genuine collection of the installation like clothes, traditional tropical fans, stain glass windows, lamps and musical instruments.

The Museum of Colonial Art in Sancti Spiritus opened to the public on October 10th, 1967 is one of the centers linked to the community and among its valuable objects is its exquisite chinaware and its furniture.
