Cuban Education Minister to Attend an International ConferenceHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 28 (acn) Cuba's Education Minister Ena Elsa Velazquez Cobiella arrived on Monday to Harare, Zimbabwe to participate in the 3rd International Education Conference scheduled from August 30th to September 1st.

According to the Foreign Ministry website, Zimbabwean representatives of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Cuba's ambassador to Zimbabwe, Elio Savon Oliva and other members of the island's diplomatic corps welcomed Ena Elsa Velazquez at the international airport.

The Education Minister is accompanied by PhD in Sciences, Silvia Navarro, Director of the Pedagogic Research Institute.

During her visit to the African nation, the Cuban Education Minister will speak at the conference and carry out other activities, hold official talks with Zimbabwean government officials and will sign a cooperation agreement with her counterpart which will include areas like arts, pre-school education, sciences, physical education and sports.

Over three thousand 200 youths from Zimbabwe have graduated in Cuba as professors, mainly in subjects like science and later as a follow up in the cooperation; the University of Education Sciences was inaugurated in the city of Bindura in the African nation, which had highly qualified Cuban professors in the beginning.

With about 92 percent of literacy, Zimbabwe is recognized as the African nation with the lowest rate of illiteracy.
