Cuba launches against-US-blockade-themed poster contestHAVANA, Cuba, May 9 (acn) The poster contest # NoMásBloqueo was convened today in this city with the aim of encouraging and promoting from design the fight against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba.

Sponsored by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MINREX by its Spanish acronym) and the National Design Office (ONDi by its Spanish acronym), the event will take place in the context of the 14th Design Week, which runs until May 12 at its main headquarters of the Hispanic-American Center for Culture, along with other locations in the city.
José Carlos Rodriguez, MINREX director of Communication and Image, detailed the bases of the contest in which designers, artists and students from all over the country can participate.
He explained that the works must reflect, in their various expressions, the demand of Cuba and the international community for the cessation of this unilateral policy still in force, causing great damages not only to the people of the Caribbean nation, but also to third countries due to Its extraterritorial character, in addition to several sectors within the United States.
The latest report presented by Cuba to the UN General Assembly, reflected that in the period between April 2015 and the same month of 2016, the blockade caused economic and social damages valued at 753,688 million dollars.
Rodríguez recalled that the siege of Washington persists for more than half a century, although during the last stage of Obama administration, positive measures, but still insufficient, were approved regarding the implementation of this hostile policy.
Gisela Herrero, ONDi director, highlighted the role of design and posterism in the political struggles of peoples, where media warfare is increasingly visible and new technologies and social Internet platforms are booming.
She assured that this initiative will be a space for the emergence of a set of pieces to show the repudiation of Cuba and the world to the American blockade.
According to the competition rules, available on the site www.cubavsbloqueo.cu, more than one work per participant may be submitted, and collective posters made up by teams of up to five people will be accepted.
