Surinam Celebrates 38 Years of Diplomatic Relations with CubaHavana, Cuba, Mar 31 (acn) The ambassador for the Republic of Surinam in Cuba Ike Desmond Antonius thanked, on Friday at the Fine Arts Museum in Havana, the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro during a political-cultural gala for the 38th anniversary of diplomatic relations between both countries.

The diplomat said that culture has no borders, an aspect with an important presence in Fidel's legacy who turned cultural and artistic expressions into a strength with the continued development of talents and the access to specific distinctive values in the sector.

Desmond Antonius highlighted that Cuba has been and will continue to be a friend and brother to Surinam during the last 40 years with examples of sincere friendship, cooperation and profound respect.

The ambassador recognized the work of the Cuban group Los Caribenos and its CD El Arbol, present at the gala, a phonogram composed in the language of Surinam (Sranan Tongo) and which inspires the poems of Robin "Dobru" Raveles, National Poet of the South American country.

Fernando Rojas, Deputy Culture Minister highlighted the ties that unites Dobru with Cuba and the position of his institute to continue strengthening the exchange in the sector.

He pointed out the bridges established through important events like the Book Fair, Biannual Art event, Caribbean and Carifesta Festivals, which have allowed a closer relation of the peoples in a same language; culture.

The group Los Caribenos performed several of their themes that make up the phonogram and was circulated by EGREM.
