HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 12 (ACN) US actor Danny Glover exchanged on Monday with students, intellectuals and university students, intellectuals and professors in Santiago de Cuba city during a space of reflection on the need for humanity to transform their realities and fight for justice.
During a visit to the Vitrales Salon at the Antonio Maceo Revolution Square, Danny Glover and his close friend James Early highlighted the role of the youth in achieving a more just and sustainable world before inequality and the wellbeing of only a few in detriment to the advancement of the majority.
The US actor and social activist stressed that he not only sees the future on the faces of the Cuban youth but also respect for the future of their country and the world and remembered civil rights leader Martin Luther King when he said: Peace is not the absence of conflicts but the presence of justice.
Peace is also the permanent search for the truth within ourselves, said Glover, adding his condemnation against the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba for over 50 years which he characterized as illegal and unjust for the people on the island.
He also recognized the ignorance of the people of the US on Cuba's reality and urged for more exchanges between people from his country with the Cuban people.
Meanwhile, Early highlighted the human capital pushed forward by the Cuban Revolution and characterized the leader of the Caribbean island as a leader with extraordinary morals.
The also Director of the Cultural and Communication's Research Center of Smithsonian Institute defined Danny Glover as a diplomat for the millions of progressive citizens of the United States.
The exchange was sponsored by the Caguayo Foundation in Santiago de Cuba who gave Danny Glover the Crecemos Award which is a replica of a stature of Jose Marti by Alberto Lescay.
Meanwhile, Early was given a painting by Miguel Angel Botalin, one of the most renowned urban landscape painter of the eastern region.
Glover also paid homage to Cuban National Hero Jose Marti at the mausoleum that holds his remains at the Santa Ifigenia Cemetery and placed a floral before the grey granite stone where the leader of the Cuban Revolution lays to rest.
