HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (ACN) If the audience is satisfied, I want to sing again for the Cubans, Spanish tenor Plácido Domingo, who will offer a concert next Saturday at Havana´s Alicia Alonso Grand Theatre, told reporters.
I wanted to act for all of Havana; the idea was to perform a recital in an open space near the Malecon, but it was not possible, so we thought in this wonderful place that, deservedly, bears the name of Alicia, the European artist said in a press conference.
I always had the illusion of coming to Cuba and the emotion is double because I am accompanied by the extraordinary soprano Ana María Martínez, my son Álvaro Domingo, and maestro Eugene Kohn, a collaborator with whom I have worked for many years, he stated.
The National Symphony Orchestra will be with us too, we hope to make a great concert, in which there will be many surprises, noted the King of Opera, as the 75-year-old musician is also known.
For the Spanish interpreter, who is accompanied by much of his family, it is exciting to return to the place he visited with his parents Placido Domingo Ferrer and Pepita Embil when he was a child.
I already had my debut in this wonderful city, because on Saturday I sang with Omara Portuondo the hit "Quiéreme mucho," by composer Gonzalo Roig, he said.
During the concert, scheduled for 8:30 pm, there will be screens and about two thousand chairs outside the theater.
Placido Domingo is recognized by the specialized critic as one of the greatest tenors of all time, throughout his career he has staged some four thousand plays and recorded hundreds of albums.
Domingo served as General Director of the Washington National Opera (2003–11) and is currently General Manager of Los Angeles Opera.
