HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 6 (acn) Julio Mora, a university student of Holguin province, in north eastern Cuba, won the 2nd International Award for Appropriate Technologies, an award sponsored by the Carlos III University of Madrid in Spain.
He won the prize for the design, construction and implementation of a hybrid heater in a family doctor's office.
This device can be constructed optionally, depending on the geographical characteristics of the area, if plain or mountainous, and whether there is electrical service or not, reported on Monday today the www.ahora.cu Web site.
The student, who is in his third year in the specialty of Electrical Engineering in the Antonio Nuñez Jimenez Higher Mining Metallurgical Institute in the municipality of Moa, explained that his main motivation is the opportunity offered by Renewable Energy Sources without major financial efforts and materials.
The efficiency of the heater, he said, was calculated with reference to December, a period of less solar radiation, adding that a system of temperature control to ensure operation in night hours was included.
