Cuba to Host F1st World Festival of Countertenors

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (acn) Prominent Cuban and foreign artists will gather in this city from September 30 to October 8 during the First World Countertenors Festival, organized by the Leo Brouwer Office.

More than 50 national premieres and a dozen voices of that particular male range will be presented in stages of the capital, among the latter Canadian Daniel Taylor, Spaniard Xavier Sabata, Polish Artur Stefanowicz and Portuguese Manuel Bras de Costa, Isabelle Hernandez, general director of the festival, told ACN in an exclusive interview.
U.S. singer Darryl Taylor, Italian Ricardo Astrano and Brazilian Rodrigo Ferreira, along with Cuban countertenors Lesby Bautista, Eduardo Sarmiento and Frank Ledesma, are part of the list of participating artists.
Concerts, lectures, exhibitions, video conferences and make up the program of the festival, which will also include the 2nd Contest of Countertenors, to be held on October 4-6 with participants from Mexico, Argentina, Colombia and Cuba, who have already confirmed their attendance.
The venues of the festival will be the Marti and Karl Marx theaters, the National Fine Arts Museum, the Minor Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi and the Spanish-American Culture Center.
