Youth and students getting ready for World Festival

HAVANA, Cuba, May 31 (acn) The first international preparatory meeting of the 19th World Festival of Youth and Students will be on session from June 4 to 7 in the city of Caracas, capital of Venezuela.

Jose Angel Maury de Toro, secretary general of the World Federation of Democratic Youth (WFDY), explained that the very recent tragedy experienced by Ecuador prevents from doing this time what it is tradition for these events: holding the first preparatory meeting for a Festival in the host country of the previous edition.
Instead, we chose Venezuela, host of the 16th Festival in 2005, and therefore, last Latin American and Caribbean headquarters of these forums of democratic and progressive youth of the world, before Ecuador, he told ACN.
About the agenda for the imminent meeting in Caracas, he stressed the official presentation of Russia to host the 19th edition, as it was approved on February this year, at the WFDY international consultative meeting held in Moscow.
In these days of dialogue, exchange and debates in the homeland of Simon Bolivar and Hugo Chavez, we will also have to agree on the date of the Festival, which at first seems to be in October 2017, as well as the slogan and logo, Maury de Toro said.
The Secretary General of WFDY added that other issues to pass include all the preparatory process for the Festival from its ground -with the creation of national committees- and the call to students and the world's youth to actively participate in its successful construction and development.
The Young Communists League of Cuba is among the national, regional and international youth and student organizations that will be represented at this first meeting, which will deal with all organizational matters and in which the general guidelines of the Festival program and issues of financial nature will also be subject of approval.
Maury de Toro also spoke about the meeting in Caracas as a mission of solidarity and irrefutable demonstration of support of WFDY and all the world anti-imperialist, progressive and democratic youth to the Latin America and Caribbean people and younger generations, especially that from Venezuela, which unfalteringly resists the fierce onslaught of internal and external reaction.
And from this moment it is known that the second international preparatory meeting will happen on coming November, in a country of the African continent, while the third one will be on April 2017 in Sri Lanka and the fourth and last will take place in Russia, shortly before the opening of the 19th Festival.
