Memorable concert by Morgan State University Chorus in Matanzas

HAVANA, Cuba, May 31 (acn) The director of the Matanzas Chamber Chorus Jose Antonio Mendez Valencia said on Monday in Matanzas, that the audience that assisted in the performance of Morgan State University Chorus applauded with satisfaction the memorable concert.

He added that the performance was a unique experience to appreciate the African American culture in the group in an authentic manner, said the also Doctor in Musical Pedagogy and praised the theatrical development of its director Eric Conway.

This is the 3rd presentation of the group in Cuba after performing in Cienfuegos and Villa Clara during their first visit to the island promoted by the Classical Movements Agency.

Conway told the press that he is happy for the exchange in a nation with very good choruses and wanted to a closer look at Cuban culture and the Afro Cuban roots. He stressed that he is taking the Cuban music in his heart.

Known in the world for its vocal quality and as one of the best choruses of the so called gospel music in the US, the Morgan State University Chorus offered a luxury repertoire interpreting spiritual music with incredible energy on stage and wonderful voices.

Davis Wilson, President of Morgan University in Baltimore, explained that they are commemorating 150th years of its foundation in its trip to Cuba that gathers some 8 thousand students from 65 countries, one of the largest centers where African American tradition and music are taught.

The academic was pleased with the exchanges with the Cuban choruses and expressed his desire for Cuban students to be able to learn about US culture.

Morgan State University will hold its last performance on Monday with a concert at the Lecuona Hall of the Alicia Alonso Grand Theater of Havana together with Entrevoces directed by MaestraDigna Guerra.

The prestigious US group has offered their art in other regions, like Jamaica, Canada, Russia, Australia, China, Latin America, Europe and the Middle East.
