HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 16 (acn) The renowned poet, folkloric expect and ethnologist Robelio Martinez Fure received on Sunday in Havana the 2015 National Literature Award during the International Book Fair underway in the Cuban capital.
The ceremony held at the Nicolas Guillen Hall at the San Carlos Fortress of one of the figures of the book fair received the maximum prize given by the Cuban Book Institute which since 19832 recognizes the work of the writers that have enriched the island's culture and literature.
Julian Gonzalez, Minister of Culture handed the award winner a diploma made by Cuban artist Manuel Lopez Oliva and placed a flag over his shoulders.
The jury, headed by Eduardo Heras Leon 2014 National Literature laureate valued the extensive history of the author from Matanzas, also researcher and promoter of traditional music and dance of African origin.
Martinez Fure has a solid history of work not only for literature –both written and oral-, but also irradiates in a creative way to all of Cuban culture, referred to the jury's expressions, which characterized his work as model of resistance.
Meanwhile, writer Soleida Rios highlighted his contributions to Cuban identity.
Martinez Fure thanked everyone for the award offering some of his verses accompanied by the traditions of African roots which has been part of his life and work.
I am the son of the spoken word and that is why I must refer to those traditions to express myself, said the National Literature Award laureate who was accompanied by family, friends and admirers of this work.
Present in the ceremony were the President of the Union of Artists and Writers Miguel Barnet, the president of the Cuban Book Institute Zuleica Roman and Deputy Culture Minister Fernando Rojas.
