HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 13 (acn) Several of the most popular musical expressions of Uruguayan culture were the main attraction of the show dedicated to the South American country, Guest of Honor of the 25th edition of Havana's International Book Fair.
A sample of the rich musical tradition of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay was presented in Havana by way of the presentation of genres such as milonga, candombe, tango and other typical rhythms of the region.
The stage of the capital's Mella Theater was the setting selected for the public to enjoy pieces by singer Malena Muyala, of the River Plate region, considered one of the leading female voices of her country, who performed together with pianist Gustavo Montemurro.
Pop singer Fernando Cabrera, one of the most important musicians of Uruguay, interpreted themes typical of the region, characterized by the simplicity of their lyrics.
Considered to be a reference author, Cabrera has influenced, with his work, the new generation of young creators of Uruguayan popular music and delighted the Havana audience with titles like Neutral, Imposibles and Llanto de Mujer.
Causing a sensation was the performance of percussionist Daniel "Tatita" Marquez, a cultivator of candombe, who played together with Cuba's National Folk Ensemble.
The show was attended by Cuban Culture Minister Julian Gonzalez; Raul Fernando Sendic, Vice-president of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay; Ariel Bergamino, Ambassador of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay to Cuba; and Zuleika Romay, president of the Cuban Book Institute.
