Alicia Alonso Receives Acknowledgement from U.S. PhysiciansHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 28 (acn) Prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso, Director General of Cuba's National Ballet Company (BNC), recently received an acknowledgement from U.S. medical institutions specialized in the care of artists, at the headquarters of the renowned Caribbean company.

The delegation, composed of U.S. physicians, handed over the certificate to the famous dancer in tribute to her continued support for health and safety in the arts.
The document was signed by doctors David Hinkamp of the Health in the Arts Program and Julie Massaro, executive director of the Performing Arts Medicine Association (PAMA) of the University of Illinois in Chicago, both affiliated to the World Health Organization.
The Cuban artist, who during her successful career played the leading role in great works of the classical and romantic repertoire, such as Swan Lake, Giselle, Carmen, Sleeping Beauty, La Fille Mal Gardee and Coppelia, adds this new acknowledgement to the honors she accumulates on the occasion of her 95th birthday.
Among the acknowledgements recently received we find the use of her name for other cultural institutions, such as the Gran Teatro de La Habana and Havana's International Ballet Festival, now named after her.
After achieving international fame in her debut in 1943 with her masterful performance of Giselle, Alicia became the top figure in the establishment of professional ballet in Cuba and one of the great myths of this art in the world.
