HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 19 (acn) Retrato de una diva, documentary that shows the process of recording of the album Magia Negra, by Cuban singer Omara Portuondo, was premiered at Cuba Pavilion.
The audiovisual, written and directed by filmmaker Ileana Rodriguez, proposes an approach to the so-called Diva of the Buena Vista Social Club in her creative process, because it was entirely shot during studio sessions.
Rodriguez told ACN prior the premiere of the material her intention was to convey the atmosphere created by Omara and her musicians while working and get to know a little more about the work of this great singer.
Besides, she added, we did an approach to Omara from the statements of several artists, including musicians accompanying her in the CD and others close to her life and work such as the singer Amaury Perez.
Retrato de una diva is a remake of the eponymous album dating from 1958 and with which the singer debuted as soloist and it is part of Magia Negra, which was released under Colibri Productions record label, and is Omara´s latest solo CD which includes hits by Cuban authors as Adolfo Guzman, Orlando de la Rosa and Cesar Portillo de la Luz; and Americans such as Duke Ellington, Harold Arlen and Johnny Mercer.
