HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 11 (acn) The documentary El poeta de La Habana, which includes 30 years of artistic life of the Cuban singer-songwriter Carlos Varela, will be premiered today in Cuba as part of the program of the 37th Havana Film Festival.
Filmed in Havana and directed by Canadian filmmaker Ron Chapman, from the concert Varela offered in January 2013 at the National Theater of Cuba, the audiovisual takes a journey through the work of the faithful exponent of the called Generation of Los Topos.
Jackson Browne, Ivan Lins, Luis Enrique, Juan Formell, Jorge Perugorría, radio producer Juanito Camacho, journalist Xenia Reloba and writer Wendy Guerra, are some of the personalities who give their testimony to tell how Varela was influenced by Cuba, its politics and people.
The ninth day of the event also includes the presentation of several books on the cinema: La biblia del cinéfilo, by Luciano Castillo, and Intrusos en el Paraíso, by Juan Antonio García Borrego.
The films to be screened today are Eva no duerme, by Pablo Agüero; Paulina, by Santiago Mitre; Caballos, by Cuban Fabián Suárez; Lo que lleva el río, by Mario Crespo, among others.
The 37th Havana Film Festival will conclude on Sunday, December 13 with the presentation of the Coral awards.
