HAVANA, Cuba, Dec. 7 (acn) The albums Tributo a Los Compadres: No Quiero Llanto, by José Alberto "El Canario" and the Septeto Santiaguero, and Suite Caminos, by Cuban pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba were nominated on Monday to the 2016 Grammy Awards, as announced by the contest's official Web site.
In an extensive list headed by U.S. rapper Kendrick Lamar, who has 11 nominations, the Cuban representatives managed to place themselves in Best Tropical Latin Album and Best Latin Jazz Album, respectively.
Likewise, Cuban-Canadian Alex Cuba was nominated in the category of Best Latin Pop Album with Healer, a work that won a prize in the last edition of the Latin Grammy Awards.
The ceremony of the eagerly awaited event will be held on February 15 and will be broadcast live on CBS, with a show that will include Latin American artists such as Juan Luis Guerra, Victor Manuelle, Ruben Blades and Los Tigres del Norte, just to name a few.
As for the album by the Septeto Santiaguero, under the Cuba's EGREM record label, it was also awarded in the Latin Grammies less than a month ago. As its name suggests, the disk is a tribute to one of the most important duos in the history of Cuban popular music.
For its part, Suite Caminos is a production marked by the mastery of Rubalcaba, who manages, with his versatility, to synthesize jazz with elements of Afro-Cuban music.
In one of the most significant events in the music industry, Cuba will be represented next to both very young artists and more experienced ones, like Kelly Clarkson, Ellie Goulding, Taylor Swift, The Weekend, Bruno Mars, Barry Manilow, Arturo O ' O'Farrill and many more.
