HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 4 (acn) The prestigious Cuban band Buena Vista Social Club performed this Tuesday night at The Beacon Theatre in New York city, as part of its Farewell Tour through the United States.
According to Prensa Latina news agency, last month the Cuban band and its lead singer Omara Portuondo performed at the White House, the first Cuban-based orchestra to do so in over half a century
They already had concerts at Hollywood Bowl, Humphreys Concerts by the Bay, Denver Botanic Gardens and Rialto Center for the Arts, among others.
The band, created in 1996, is made up by well-known Cuban musicians, which recorded a Grammy-winner CD with American producer Ry Cooder and a documentary nominated to the Oscars in 2000.
The Farewell Tour started last year, and marks the end of a highly successful career worldwide.
