HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 20 (acn) Reynaldo L. Alvarez Villamil, artistically known as Villamil, will open tomorrow the mural Desde lo profundo in honor of the Day of Cuban Culture.
The large format piece of 18 by 3.55 meters in size is located in the headquarters of the Provincial Department of Culture of Havana, on the busy G Avenue .
The artist -painter, sculptor and designer of interiors- exclusively told ACN that the work is made of black and galvanized steel; has an abstract style and those who see it can think of deep sea, the sky or the unfathomable human mind-spirituality.
With protruding volumes, convexities, scrolls, swirls and a dynamics that resembles a fast liquid stream, the mural is impressive, another milestone in the career of this prolific creator.
In carrying out the work and its final installation, Villamil highlights the work of his usual team of collaborators made up by sculptor Reynaldo Reyes, Miguel Diaz Jimenez, Giraldo Abreu and Kenny Guillén.
Trained as an economist and then become artist, Villamil, who was born in Havana , in 1962, has an exciting creative dynamic and is currently developing several projects as monuments in the National Schools of Boxing and Volleyball and the one for High Performance Athletes.
His work also includes the scoreboards of Latinoamericano and Panamericano Stadiums and that of Baraguá Swimming Pool Complex.
His paintings with historical themes relating to the taking of Havana by the British are in the fortresses of El Morro and La Cabana.
