In his acceptance speech, Betto, the author of 60 books, including the bestseller Fidel and Religion, thanked the UH for training men and women fighting for a world of peace.
Also attending the ceremony were Jose Ramon Fernandez and Abel Prieto, advisors to Cuban President Raul Castro, and Fernando Martinez, winner of the National Social Science Prize in 2007 and a personal friend of Frei Betto, to whom he dedicated a few words of praise.
His books have been a weapon that has increased several times over communication between people who want a world where no one goes hungry, live on their work and can aspire to have a decent future, he underlined.
Betto has offered his support in the international arena to various causes in favor of Cuba, including the demand to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S., the return of the child Elian Gonzalez to his father, and the return of The Five to their homeland.
