The Plaza de Marte is for the residents of Santiago de Cuba the entrance of the historic center of the city where the first villa of Santiago de Cuba was founded on July of 1515.
Interesting legends treasure the public area since the 18th century as it was used to train the metropolis troops then called Campo de Marte in allusion to the God of War of the Greek mythology.

During the last three years several several stores opened its doors like the ChocolateriaFraternidad (Chocolate Store), the El Tamarindo market, the SindoGaray music store and the La Avispa store.
The Iris Jazz Club Cultural Complex, Mama Ines Café and the Wine House are also present.
Other projects are underway ready to commemorate half a millennium of the villa on July 25th.
