Francis Ford Coppola: I'm Interested in Cuba and its Culture

HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 16 (acn) I have been to Cuba many times and it interests me, above all its culture and the way of being so nice to people, commented on Wednesday prominent U.S. filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, who visits the island these days.

The director of The Godfather (1972) trilogy, in Cuba at the invitation of the International Film and Television (EICTV) School of San Antonio de los Baños, said in an exclusive interview with ACN that despite not knowing all Cuban cinematography, he comes in the spirit to learn a little more about it.
In that regard, the director of the war film Apocalypse Now (1979) spoke on Wednesday afternoon with third year students of the Cuban institution, and viewed with some of them their theses and discussed the future of cinema and how it should be assumed by the new generations.
On the short movie Alpha, young filmmaker Javier Ferreiro –a student of Direction-, the six-time Academy Oscar Award winner said to the students that this it is a singular audiovisual, unique and never seen by him.
I can feel the inner world of characters, who despite being grotesque and distant to me communicate incredible love and passion, he said.
Ferreiro highlighted that the presence of this figure of seventh art at the EICTV has a high significance for younger generations, who have him as a great referent.
Ford Coppola has always maintained a close relationship with the school, the young artist told ACN, and his stay in Cuba is important so he continues supporting this educational and cultural project.
The U.S. artist has directed more than twenty films, which also include productions such as The Conversation (1974) and Dracula (1992). He was recently presented with the 2015 Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts.
