Circle of Cuban Art, a full-steam-ahead workshop that wants to reinvent creation.

They are a sort of unusual brotherhood; without imposed rites. They are united by similar ages, shared vocations; complicity emerged from years in the concerns of the classroom and the irrepressible desire to create; not to give up the imagination and form the universe, from their personal perspectives and emerging experiences, although many say that there is nothing new under the sun.

Like any intimate group they have their secret keys, closed to outsiders and curious; but it is obvious that they are self-sufficient for what they want to achieve: painting, sculpting, engraving, trying with photos and videos and it seems nothing is alien to them in this field of artistic creation. They can assemble their own works; they theorize with rigor about their poetics and have that fresh irreverence of youth that finds no limits to b e stopped; it is open to new experiences and passes stories, legends and utopias through its individual filter.

Original ways of addressing painting, refreshing perspectives, talent and desire to do characterize the 10 young artists integrated to the Cuban Art Circle of newly graduated from the Cuban University of Arts. They know that body and soul must be devoted to this effort, and daylight hours are not enough and they can move forward even sleeping.

When the vast majority think of exhaustion, the unifying globalization and the constant bombardment of information of all kinds thanks to the era of the Internet and information technologies resembling running wild and creating a chilling effect: Andrys Gil Gonzalez, Carlos Aguilar, Fernando Reyna Escalona, Jorge Luis Bradshaw Venzant, Luis Enrique Lopez-Chavez Pollan, Miguel Alejandro Machado Suarez, Oslendy Hernandez Basallo, Roger Toledo Bueno, Yeremy Guerra Reyes and Yoxi Velázquez Ricardo operate as those Renaissance workshops where you had to do everything and nothing was forbidden at any time in matter of work.

Using unusual materials and supports in the visual arts, spiritual and physical strength, fresh ways to think about the eternal existential questions of humanity , vitality that seems unstoppable against any barriers, along with undeniable talent are the credentials of the Cuban Art Circle.

Each of them is a universe in himself; from who tries to fill the gaps -international or not-, of official history; following the trail to personalities that seemed erased when taking the Diaspora, using sugar, salt, macerated cigar ink, drawing with the ashes of cigars, using earth as the most indigenous resource to rescue the ancient art of lithography of the Cuban tobacco industry, the Mecca of that work, with fresh air and intentions.

They are determined to prove the infinity of tones and intensities available in one color, the complexities, suggestions and multiple depths in way that can even consider an apparently monochromatic piece.

These artists also play with reflective substances, without using brushes, spatulas or other implements-, but with the hands or vibrations of the fabric hit at various points, multiple layers of paint in counterpoint of transparency and opacity to create mental, oneiric landscapes, proposing unusual ghostly, spectacular and magnetic images causing the watcher getting immersed in such atmospheres.

The only girl of the group, petite and fragile at first sight, surprises everyone with her spiritual and physical strength, with her pieces of sculptures, installations and performances, for which she gets prepared as a top athlete and submerges the viewer in this century in the eternal existential questions of humanity since it was aware of being. Finally, another one opts for the play of light and shadows on the traditional ornamental mosaics which were used to tile floors and invents clashes between imagined armies.

Those attending the workshops of these young people, their exhibitions, must be willing to surprise, to commune with irreverent visions, purposeful of other possible ways to address creation; to ever emerging imagination, so necessary to live because although does not provide concrete solutions, it does open perspectives for looking at reality from another angle and to seek alternatives, maybe not original , but very personal.

In short, this unique team is an antidote to the globalizing uniformity, depletion of imagination and an injection of concerns, questions and possibilities that most people, by being immersed in the daily maelstrom, do not stop to analyze. The Cuban Art Circle invites to realize that life is always an eternal adventure, if curiosity does not die and imagination unleashes its wings.
