Russian film exhibit opens in Havana

HAVANA, Cuba, August 1 (ACN) A Russian film showcase opened at the capital's Acapulco Cinema, organized by the Roskino Company and the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC by its Spanish acronym).

The screenings, supported by the Russian Ministry of Culture and its Embassy to Cuba, began with the screening of the animated film "Luntik, the Return Home" (2024), by director Konstantin Bronzit, which tells the story of a lunar-born character's search for his mother.

The production, which received the Nika Award—the highest honor given by Russian cinema—for best animated film, will be followed by the family comedy "Both Two" (2024), directed by Vladimir Kott.

During the festival's opening, His Excellency the Russian Ambassador to Cuba, Victor Koronelli, offered welcoming remarks, highlighting the significant advances in the field of cinema, "which demonstrate the rebirth of the very close relations that existed in past years between Soviet and Cuban filmmakers."

The occasion provided an opportunity to highlight the imminent completion of two new co-production films: "Guantanamera" and "Teófilo," the filming of which has already been completed.

The official website of the Russian diplomatic mission to Havana emphasized that the current exhibition is part of the extensive bilateral film exchange program between the two countries.

During May and June, the Russian audience could watch some of the works of Cuban talented directors within the framework of the Cuban Film Festival in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Nizhny Novgorod.
