Cuba announces international puppetry festival

 MATANZAS, Cuba, Feb 18 (ACN) The 16th International Puppetry Festival and Workshop of the province of Matanzas (FESTITIM) will be held on March 18 to 23, 2026 to mark the 70th anniversary of Cuba's national puppet and icon of the country’s identity.

For the first time, FESTITIM will grant the “Pelusín del Monte” award to the best puppet show based on its promotion of national autochthonous human and social values, including social equality and respect for the environment, and will organize the Playwriting Contest Un retablo para los héroes tradicionales [A tableau for traditional heroes] for authors who write about traditional puppetry in different countries.

The organizing committee invites Cuban and foreign professional groups engaged in puppet theater shows for people of all ages to participate in the 16th FESTITIM.
