MATANZAS, Cuba, Feb 5 (ACN) Las Invisibles, a collective exhibition to be held at the Pedro Esquerré Gallery of this city until March 4, seeks to position the creations of 13 women artists who use both traditional and unconventional techniques in their work.
Tear dust applied to faded photographs, silk screen printing and videos accessed through QR codes are some of the striking proposals of these authors, whose exhibition is part of the project Cuerpos Integrados (Integrated Bodies) of the Havana Biennial in the province of Matanzas and the second one in the context of curator and artist Helga Montalván’s initiative Tetaslibres (Freebreasts) to promote joint female cooperation.
“Traditionally, women hide themselves away, so we want to take them out of that comfort zone and help them come to the fore”, Montalvan stressed. “Tetaslibres is an open mutant project that relies on collective feedback and seeks to transform not only people’s mindset but also our public and institutional spaces, and that is why we organized this exhibition”.
Exploring women from a female viewpoint, extolling their image and bring out their defining presence in social processes are also among the goals of these artists, bent as they are on making sure that no woman is left in the shadows of art.
