HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 30 (acn) The Critics Circle of Great Britain, in the 15th edition of the British Dance Awards, gave on Tuesday a National Dance Prize to Cuban dancer Carlos Acosta in recognition of his achievements and lifetime work.
A few months ago, Acosta announced he would leave classical style in 2015, after the premiere of a version of his own of Carmen, in September, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
In 2014, the Prince of Wales conferred the Cuban dancer the title of Commander of the British Empire, and during the ceremony, at Buckingham Palace, he praised the artist for becoming an inspiration to humble youngsters.
In early May, Acosta will be the ambassador of a dance program dedicated to ballet and dance in general, in BBC public television.
At present, the artist is getting ready to be the leading dancer, in February, of an English version of Swan Lake, and rehearses his choreography of Don Quixote, created in 2013 for the Royal Ballet, which will be presented by the company in June, during a tour of the United States.
