The Little Prince in native languages presented at Havana Book Fair

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 19 (ACN) Copies of The Little Prince translated into the native languages of Bolivia: Aymara, Quechua and Guarani are available today at the stand of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, at the Morro Cabaña, on the occasion of the 32nd International Book Fair in Havana.

This is what Estela Machicado, executive manager of the Publishing House of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, told the Cuban News Agency.

The objective of the Bolivian presence in Cuba is not precisely to sell books, but to exhibit and be part of this great fair, which allows to exchange knowledge, learn new things and strengthen ties with this brotherly Cuban people, she said.

When asked about the book selected for this translation, she expressed how important it is for her people to make known the cultures of the 36 constitutionally recognized nations.

In this sense, she affirmed that one of the responsibilities of the State in Bolivia is to unite these nations and one of the ways is through language.

This is also, Machicado stated, a political objective for the country and a challenge for the Publishing House of the Plurinational State of Bolivia, which has proposed since then, to defend our languages, our identity mainly from the original indigenous rural communities and that the new generations know their idiosyncrasy.

According to the official, a book like The Little Prince was chosen because of its universal and timeless character for children, young people and adults; no matter at what age it is read, this is a work that shows realities, leads to reflection and helps to build a thought.

The executive manager also said that this book has been translated into more than 250 languages and dialects in the world and it would be important that it could also be read in Aymara, Quechua and Guarani.

The Little Prince in Aymara, Quechua and Guarani was launched in August 2023, at the International Book Fair of La Paz, the largest of its kind in Bolivia and from there began partnerships with other countries.
