The University of the Arts Receives Brazilian Theologian Frei Betto

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 28 (acn) The University of the Arts (ISA) welcomed Frei Betto (Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, August 25, 1944), who spoke with students and professors on social movements in the formation of contemporary Brazil.

The Dominican friar was received on Monday by Rolando Gonzalez, rector of that center of higher studies, who thanked the intellectual, journalist and liberation theologian for his visit, the prelude of the setting-up of the Department of Brazil and its culture.
Likewise, he expressed his appreciation for the presence of Homero Acosta, secretary of the Council of State, and of Cesareo Melantonio Neto, Brazil's ambassador to Cuba and a decisive promoter of this dream about to become true.
Betto, the author of over 50 books of different literary genres and topics, considered that this will be a free way to consolidate cultural bonds between the two nations.
During this new visit, the very close friend of Cuba has given similar lectures at the Casa de las Americas cultural institution and the University of Havana, among other centers.
