Cuban National Ballet starts celebrations for its 75th anniversary

 HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 6 (ACN) With a program that includes the presentation of classics from its repertoire, photographic exhibitions and film screenings, the National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), Cultural Heritage of the Nation, will celebrate its 75th anniversary from today until October 28.

Viengsay Valdes, prima ballerina and general director of the prestigious company, recently told a press conference that the BNC will perform during four consecutive weekends at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba to celebrate this closed birthday.

She pointed out that the repertoire will be varied and will be made up of classics versioned by Alicia Alonso, prima ballerina assoluta and founder of this dance group along with Alberto and Fernando Alonso, as well as pieces by other renowned Cuban choreographers.

The company, Valdes said, proposed for this jubilee to resume performances in schools, factories and hospitals as its main creators did.

With this initiative, the director added, the significance of the ballet in the national culture will be showed all over the country and the will to bring the BNC closer to its audiences, who cannot always appreciate its live performances in theaters, will be expressed.

On October 28, the date on which the 75th anniversary of the BNC will be officially commemorated, a special gala will be held at the National Theater of Cuba, and the soiree will include the pieces "Giselle", "Canto vital" and " Septima sinfonía" (Seventh Symphony).
The celebrations for the 75th anniversary of the company will be part of the actions of the Day of Cuban Culture, which will also take place this month.

Since 2018, the National Ballet of Cuba has joined the list of the Nation's Cultural Heritage and more than 780 works by 212 choreographers have been brought to the stage, which has allowed them to extend their art to a good part of the world.
