Havana, April l17 (ACN) Havana’s Casa de Las Americas cultural center is marking its 64 anniversary with the granting of a new Prize to winners of literature contest to run April 24-28.
The director of the literary research center Jorge Fornet told reporters that the contest includes the genres of short story, testimonial literature, studies on the presence of people of color in today’s Caribbean and The Americas and Brazilian literature with fiction books published in Portuguese Language between 2020 and 2022.
Fornet said that authors have thus far sent in 350 short stories, nearly 200 testimonies and 480 works in other categories.
The contest will pay honor to Venezuelan author Gustavo Pereira, who won the Jose Lezama Lima prize for his book “Diario de revelaciones.” Pereira will give opening remarks of the event, which also includes the exchange among participants about the issues dealt with in different categories as well as the awarding ceremony.
The Casa de Las Americas Prize was established in 1959 to acknowledge outstanding authors in this part of the world; it’s also provides spaced for the exchange among writers.
