Fatima, First Cuban Film in Havana FestivalHAVANA, Cuba, Dec 5 (acn) Directed by the actor Jorge Perugorría, the film Fatima or The Fraternity Park will be the first Cuban premiere in the 36th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema, which runs in this city until December 14.

Yara cinema will host in the showings of 3:00 pm and 10:30 pm the presentation of the feature film, starring Carlos Enrique Almirante, Tomás Cao, Broselianda Hernandez, Mirtha Ibarra and Nestor Jimenez, and based on a homonymous story by Miguel Barnet.

Awarded with Juan Rulfo Prize in 2006, the film tells the story of a man who is a transvestite and assumes a female identity, conflict through which it also seeks to deal with sensitive issues such as acceptance, respect and self-realization.

This same premise will also show Argentine films ¨La salada¨ and ¨Aire libre¨, by Juan Martin Hsu and Anahi Berneri, respectively.

Moreover, in the second room of Infanta Movie Theater, which hosts the exhibition of documentaries and shorts films essentially, two materials on the work of the prominent Cuban filmmakers Fernando Perez and Octavio Cortázar will be screened.

During the day conferences related to the seventh art will be taught, script workshop will be on session, two poster exhibitions will open, and it continues passports selling for access to cinemas, in the Film Festival House, at Havana's Vedado neighborhood.

The current edition of this cultural event is dedicated to the Colombian writer Gabriel García Márquez, who died this year, and has 116 materials in competition, including five Cuban feature films.
