HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 9 (ACN) The kitesurfing crossing from Cuba to Mexico is an example of brotherhood and solidarity between countries, according to the expert Russian athletes who plan to perform the feat this weekend.
The initial journey, from Cuba to the United States, had to be cancelled due to the refusal of the U.S. authorities, so they had to make plans for a longer and more complex crossing from Cape San Antonio to Cancun. “It will be on February 9, 10 or 11, but we will try to prove that it is humanly possible to cover more than 200 kilometers by kitesurfing,” Russian businessman and kitersurfer Vladimir Popov remarked to Cuban media.
The Russian athletes intend to support kitesurfing practice in Cuba, as it is very attractive for young people and a relatively inexpensive sport, according to team captain Konstantin Aksenov, a renowned kitesurfer who has crossed the Bering Strait from Russia to Alaska.
