Jojazz Festival Begins in Cuba

Jojazz Festival Begins in CubaHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 13 (acn) JoJazz 2014, a contest to appreciate the work of the young defenders of the genre on the island, will begin today in Havana with the opening concert ¨JoJazz Pablo Milanes, ¨starring a cast of renowned Cuban musicians.

During the gala, instrumentalists like Rolando Luna, William Roblejo, Zule Guerra , Lázaro Peña, Michel Herrera and Sexto Sentido quartet, among others, will perform iconic songs from the repertoire of the famous Cuban troubadour.

This edition of the event shall be attended by more than 26 young jazz musicians from across the country, primarily from Santiago de Cuba, Granma, Holguin, Camaguey and Havana.

Yentsy Rangel, musicologist of the event and member of the organizing committee, said that, as every year, participants will compete in the categories of performance and composition .

The jury will be headed by winners of previous editions of the event such as saxophonist Michel Herrera and trumpeter Yasek Manzano, she noted.

The venues of the contest will be the Avenida Hall, La Zorra y el Cuervo nightclub, Lazaro Peña Theater and the gardens of Mella Theater, place which will host the Jam Sessions.

JoJazz 2014 is devoted to the 30th anniversary of Jazz Plaza, another of the most important events in the country, which enhances and promotes this genre in the country.
