HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 7 (acn) World dance stars are closing on Friday the 24th edition of Havana's International Ballet Festival.
A total of 28 countries were represented in this edition, dedicated to famous English playwright William Shakespeare, on the occasion of the 450th anniversary of his birth.
Several favorite dancers of ballet followers will perform in the closing gala at the National Theater, like the current director of the San Jose Ballet of the United States; Jose Manuel Carreño, and Paloma Herrera and Xiomara Reyes, main figures of the American Ballet Theater.
The gala will also include the participation of stars of the National Ballet of China, Qiu Yunting and Wu Sicong; of the New York City Ballet, Joaquin de Luz; and artists of the Colon Theater of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
On stage, representing Cuba's National Ballet Company (BNC) will be Yanela Piñera, Anette Delgado, Joel Carreño, Javier Torres, Dani Hernandez and Camilo Ramos, among others. Prima ballerina Viengsay Valdes and leading dancer Victor Estevez will premiere Valsette, a version of Nuestros Valses, by Venezuelan choreographer Vicente Nebrada.
For 10 days, the Festival directed by Cuban prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso invaded the National, Mella and Karl Marx theaters, in addition to galleries for exhibitions, lecture areas, book presentations, and movie and video cycles.
The BNC offered technique courses for professionals, professors and students of advanced levels, while seven dance personalities gave keynote lectures at the National School of Ballet as a tribute to Cuban pedagogue Fernando Alonso.
Among guests, the fierceness of the leading dancer of the Ballet of Washington, Brooklyn Mack; the freshness of the Hispanic Ballet of New York; and the surprising elasticity of Germany's Sttugart Ballet star Alicia Amatriain, won the largest amount of applause.
