HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 30 (acn) In a sudden way, Cuban pianist, composer and interpreter Frank Dominguez died on Wednesday at age 87 in Merida, the Yucatan Newspaper reported.
Considered to be a star of the song movement known as "feeling", Frank Dominguez was born in Matanzas, on October 9, 1927, and when he was 8 years old he began to practice piano. Following the wishes of his father, a pharmacist, he studied pharmacology, but didn't practice that profession.
In 1958, he recorded his first disk: "Frank Dominguez canta sus canciones", quite an event in Cuban music history.
He's the author of the famous bolero "Tu me acostumbraste" (1957) and of "Pedacito de cielo", "¿Como te atreves?" "Me recordaras," and "Imagenes". In the case of "Tu me acostumbraste," it has been interpreted, among others, by Elena Burke, Los Tres Ases, Olga Guillot, Chavela Vargas, Maria Dolores Pradera, Pedro Vargas, Caetano Veloso, Domenico Modugno, Tom Jones, Mina, Gal Costa and Maria Bethania, Lola Flores, Los Sabandeños, Bambino, Luis Miguel, Sara Montiel, los Gipsy Kings, Chucho Valdes and Andrea Bocelli.
According to the Yucatan Newspaper his ashes were deposited on Thursday in a crypt of the Maria Inmaculada Church (fracc. Campestre), of Merida.
Various countries know his art, like Mexico, Venezuela, Peru, Panama, etc. Throughout his prolific career, he received numerous acknowledgements - plaques, medals, trophies and certificates.
