HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 28 (acn) Artistic presentations by Cuba's National Ballet Company (BNC) on the occasion of its 66th birthday began on Tuesday and will end on November 7. Havana's International Ballet Festival is dedicated this time to English playwright William Shakespeare.
The capital's Karl Marx Theater is the venue of the Festival for the first time, where the inauguration and closing galas will take place, in addition to other suggestions like La magia de la danza (The Magic of Dance), an anthology in which the public can appreciate scenes of the most famous classical pieces.
The inauguration of the Festival, held every two years, has been scheduled for 8:30 p.m., and includes the traditional parade with all the generations of dancers trained at the Cuban Ballet School and the opening speech.
The piece Shakespeare and his Masks has been programmed for the last day of the Festival a choreography by Alicia Alonso, orchestra arrangements by Juan Piñera and script by Jose Ramon Neyra, inspired in the story of Romeo and Juliet.
The public attending the Festival will also be able to enjoy the performance of prima ballerinas and leading dancers of five dance companies of the United States and other from Belgium, Hong Kong, Uruguay, France, China, Denmark, South Africa, Chile and Italy, as well as of Puerto Rico, Portugal, Great Britain, Germany and Norway and of the host country.
Foreign guests will perform at Havana's Mella Theater and in the two halls of the National Theater.
