HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Feb 24 (ACN) Interesting research works on the ways and routines of the Cuban comedy world marked the usual theoretical event organized as part of the 8th National Festival of Humor for Young People Satiricón took place Wednesday at the headquarters of the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC) in the province of Holguin.
Onelio Escalona, the actor who hosted the space, told ACN that the papers for discussion, which revolve around humor, contribute to a great extent to cultivate and develop the public's perception of this genre. Among them are Luis Enrique (Kike) Quiñones’s study Social satires in Cuba: mockery or criticism? and the local professor Lino Verdecia Calunga’s work Onelio Jorge Cardoso’s criollo jocularity.
Other presentations were Comedy and Moliere, centuries later by researcher and critic José Rojas Bez and Mediations, temporality and humorous practice: a retrospective look, by university professor Ariel Zaldívar Batista.
Sponsored by the Provincial Council of the Performing Arts and the Hermanos Saíz Association, Satiricón—which includes a theoretical contest—stemmed from the Aquelarre National Humor Festival, the most important event of the Center for the Promotion of Humor in Cuba.
