Camagüey Ballet returns to the stage on its 55th anniversary

CAMAGÜEY, Cuba, Feb 10 (ACN) The Camagüey Ballet will be back on the stage these days with several performances dedicated to the 55th anniversary of the company.

The performances will recognize Regina María Balaguer's 25 years as director of the ensemble for her decisive impact on its scope and renown, as well as the teachers Lila Martínez de la Torre and Lila Corzo for their 45th and 30th anniversaries, respectively.

The program designed by the choreographer Norbe Risco, former dancer of the group and current artistic director of the Kentucky Ballet Theatre, includes five premieres and two revivals of classical and contemporary works.

During his intervention in Mi Camagüey streaming, the artist admitted that it is always a pleasure to return to his roots, as he feels motivated when working with young, talented and knowledge-hungry performers.

“These boys and girls are fantastic; they work hard, which is vital because the essence of ballet is constant sacrifice, and therefore it is invigorating to help them in their growth as dancers,” he said.

Founded in 1967 by Vicentina de la Torre and directed later on by maestro Fernando Alonso, the Camagüey Ballet is Cuba’s second classical ballet company. It has performed in Europe and America with a repertoire ranging from the most traditional works to the most daring avant-garde dance pieces.
