National “Reading History” Conference in eastern Cuba

HOLGUÍN, Cuba, Dec 8 (ACN) The National “Reading History” Conference is under way in the province of Holguin with a busy program of activities ranging from book presentations and sales to panels and talks,.

Dedicated to the 63rd anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution, the 60th anniversary of the Literacy Campaign, the 40th anniversary of the National Union of Cuban Historians and the 123rd anniversary of the death of Major General Calixto Garcia, the event will be held in museums, cultural centers, parks, schools and the University of Holguin.

The program includes topics such as the value of written records and documentary archives for the historical memory, in charge of historian Hiram Pérez Concepción, and the launching of researcher and anthropologist Alejandro Torres-Gómez de Cádiz Hernández’s book Palabras a los Intelecturales (Words to the intellectuals), Commander in Chief Fidel Castro’s historical speech of June 30, 1961.

Sponsored by the Union of Historians and the Provincial Center of Books and Literature, the Conference dedicated a day to the presentation of children’s books. Moreover, many other titles by Cuban history scholars will be launched.

As part of the event, tents have been set up around the city’s Calixto Garcia Park for the sale of texts, in order to bring readers closer to works of literature centered on Cuban history.

The National “Reading History” Conference will come to an end on Saturday 11 at La Periquera Provincial Museum.
