Most of the films included in the sample are based on real events related to the struggle of South African people against apartheid and current challenges of that society.

Rankhumise said the film series is a platform for sharing the cultural experience of the peoples of the two nations and a way to acknowledge Cuban support to South African struggle for independence.

These are films that have had a major impact on South African public and universal by the emotion of their stories and messages of unity, the diplomat added.

With the elimination of apartheid system in 1994, the access of creators of the southern nation to film industry was democratized, which has led to increase international distribution and take to the big screen the cultural diversity of the country, Nompecuko Masuku, political secretary of the embassy, said.

In the two decades of diplomatic relations, Cuba and South Africa have signed about twenty agreements in various sectors, mainly in the field of health, and there is interest in advancing initiatives in areas such as culture and art, Rankhumise noted.
