Cubans will Enjoy South African MoviesHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 19 (acn) A cinematographic look at the recent history of South Africa will be offered in the 4th Sample organized by that country 's embassy in Cuba and the Cuban Film Institute from next October 6 to 12.

The event, which will be screened in Havana's 23 and 12 cinema, is part of the activities developed by the two nations to mark the 20th anniversary of the formalization of their diplomatic relations, Sello Patrick Rankhumise, counselor of the African embassy, told the press .

Most of the films included in the sample are based on real events related to the struggle of South African people against apartheid and current challenges of that society.

Rankhumise said the film series is a platform for sharing the cultural experience of the peoples of the two nations and a way to acknowledge Cuban support to South African struggle for independence.

These are films that have had a major impact on South African public and universal by the emotion of their stories and messages of unity, the diplomat added.

With the elimination of apartheid system in 1994, the access of creators of the southern nation to film industry was democratized, which has led to increase international distribution and take to the big screen the cultural diversity of the country, Nompecuko Masuku, political secretary of the embassy, said.

In the two decades of diplomatic relations, Cuba and South Africa have signed about twenty agreements in various sectors, mainly in the field of health, and there is interest in advancing initiatives in areas such as culture and art, Rankhumise noted.
