Cuba celebrates World Portuguese Language Day

HAVANA, Cuba, May 6 (ACN) A cultural gala for World Portuguese Language Day was held in Havana on Wednesday with a virtual musical concert featuring pieces and poems by nine members of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries accredited in Cuba.

Led by Rosa Garcia Oropesa, an excellent music group, with the voices of Betty Moreno and Lindiana Murphy, performed several melodies, including anthological pieces by singers and poets as relevant as Chico Buarque and Luis Repressas, Eça de Queirós Department of the University of Havana reported.

The date of May 5, officially established by the 40th Session of UNESCO’s General Conference, was welcomed by the countries where the Portuguese language is at the root of their specific identity.

The cultural gala was sponsored by the Coordinating Commission of Portuguese-speaking countries in Cuba and the Camões Institute of Portugal.
